broken leg?

Question:
i broke my leg last year, they fixed it with metal plates and screws ( 6 screws, 1 plate). i have to go and get them removed next month. Has anyone suffered a similar injury? How long after the surgery was it until you could move around normally?

I was not aloud to weight bear until 6 weeks after the original op. am hoping it will not be so bad this time. any ideas?

Answers:
Hi well each surgeon is differant some like the plates, screws to be left in and some dont due to infection from the plates etc, also later on in life you and other people do have problems with the metal work eg uncomfortable, metal work rising nearer to the skin, meatal work becoming loose. You asked when you would be able to have mobility again after the metal is taken out, well its vertially straight away, you will have all the matal work taken out stitch up and a dressing applied.Your bones have now healed together now with new bone growth around the fractured site, and having the metal work was to help the fracture have a better alignment. So you will be able to weight bear nearly staright away, you can carry on with the crutches for a few days, but the consultant will probably say full weight bear.Good Luck.Any other problems your worried about email me .
no it wont be bad i promise just ask to be put to sleep and you wont feel anything in sugery of course i do not understand why they have to take the plate out.
