ouch! any advice?

Question:
Hey there.
So yesterday we were out on a lake and decided to go tubing, when me and my friend fell off she sprained her knee and i hurt my neck.

Im not sure whats wrong with it, but the left and right side of my neck hurt very badly. i can only turn my head about two inches to each side, not even all the way to my shoulders. i can look down, but not up. and if i try to lay my head down on a pillow, i can not pick it up without putting my hands under my head and lifting it up.

Ive hurt my neck tubing before, but never this badly. im only 15 so i cant exactly drive myself to a doctor or anything and my parents wont take me

ive tried streching my neck about every 5 mins i stop and streach it, but that doesnt seem to be helping. ive also tried heat pads and muscle rubs.

Does anyone know anything i can do to fix it?

(sorry this question was so long)

Answers:
It sounds like a muscle strain. Over use of any muscle causes tightness that does not like to be moved until the muscle comes to grips with what happened. Like a rubber band, muscles like to maintain there original shape, and must be trained to accept and hold different lengths and usages. Time will heal it, but always be on the safe side, Get to a doctor. He will be able to examine it and make a proper diagnosis. Please call a friend to take you to a doctor.

go see a doc
You need to see a doctor right away, you could have seriously hurt your neck, and injured your spinal cord or brain stem. Please seek immeadiate medical attention.
I think an emergency room visit is in order. Hope you feel better!
I am a New York State Emergency Medical technician, sounds like you have a neck injury possibly also a spinal injury. Moving your neck might cause you to be paralized. Tell your parents to take you to a doctor NOW. I am not a doctor but that is what it sounds like to me.
Wait a few days, most likely it will get better.
keep stretching it but not to the point of bad pain.
it will most likely heal on its own.
patience is required. if you don't have patience then
put heat and ice on it, alternating every 30 mins or
something to keep you busy
If your neck is bothering you that badly, you really need to pressure your parents into taking you to the doctor. Chances are you only spraigned it pretty good, but you may need to get some muscle relaxers to help ease the tensions. Try relaxing and keeping still as much as you can, use ice packs, and heat pads to help loosen your muscles up.
Stand under ahot shower aimed at your neck ... if you have a shower massage, even better. Take a couple of ibuprofin.
hospital you could have broken it i did and i did, but i didnt go to the hospital for a week then i did they said fractured it, and it took me 3 months to get better......they another 2 for it to stpo hurting....get it checked out.

I was lucky you might not be
ok now ive had an injury in my neck well actually i woke up one morning and it was like that but what happened was that one of those disks in my vertibrate slipped out of place and i had to go to a chiropractor and she put it back in place and it felt alot better maybe its the same for you or u jus have whiplash
you definitely need to see a doctor. you could have torn some ligaments. Don't stretch it! Try to keep your neck still until you know exactly what's wrong.
You probably strained a muscle in your neck, which can be a huge pain. Try rubbing some icy/hot cream on it and take an ibuprofen or other pain reliever that works for you. It's going to be a couple of days but the pain should slowly subside. If it doesn't, you should definitely see a doctor. Good luck and feel better!
i know your pain. something like that has happend to me before. You just have to tough it out. Asprin or something like it might help.
What kind of parents won't take their kid to the docs?
you should see a doctor now, you might have hurt your neck
so bad +__+
I highly suggest going to see a doctor! Youre parents really need to take you. You'll have to do something clever and mischevious to get them to take you. Youre neck could be something serious!
ouch, sounds like you have a spinal injury!! you need to see a doctor right away, what kind of parents are they? letting you hurt like this... i hope you feel better soon
go to the doctor you may have a fracture not something to play with
just try to rest it...instead of going online or watching TV or doing any activities, just lay in bed or on the couch on your back, and just rest your neck and the rest of your muscles. Hope I helped!
The only really wise advice I can give you is to insist your folks get you to a doctor. It is silly and self-defeating to try and diagnose an injury of this type, perhaps even dangerous.

These types of injuries can affect you for the rest of your life, so it is absolutely critical that you see a doctor. Probably, it is either a muscle strain or a sprain, but either way, you need to get this documented in your medical record should you have problems with it later.

For some relief in the interim, use hot soaks (continuously applying a moist washcloth to your neck, can be heated in the microwave) and take an anti-inflammatory such as Naprocyn - this is found over the counter and is called Aleve. It will reduce pain and swelling. I do not recommend stretching excercises, you may inflame an already injured muscle or sprain.

But please see a doctor....
Good Luck, I hope you feel better.
I have the exact same problem but I've had it for over ten years. It is very painful. My doctor would not do anything accept give me muscle relaxing pills which took the edge of but never healed it. Since you just hurt it I would get to the doctor or emergency room as soon as possible. Maybe cause its early they can do something. In the mean time you can apply a hot wet towel. Once it gets cool do it again. It won't remove the pains altogether but it will take the edge off. Also if you can get some pain medication at the drug store that will help a bit to. Sorry to hear this happened. Don't do ANYTHING strenuous. Just relax.
Your parents need to take you to a doctor IMMEDIATELY! Neck injuries are serious. You need you neck and you dont want to damage it permanently so young- Good luck!!!
1st rethink tubing, 2nd it sounds like whiplash, like when you're in a car accident. It will probably heal on its own. But you should always check with a doctor to be on the safe side. Why won't your parents do that? = 0
