how much diphenhydramine is an overdose?

Question:
I recently received information on a friends cause of death. officially they said it was diphenhydramine(benadryl) poisoning. how much is considered an overdose?

Answers:
It really depends on the person taking the medication. If they are used to taking it it would take more to kill someone. However it is genuinely accepted that anything over 1-2mg/lb i(2-4mg/kg) is considered a potentially fatal dose. Which for a 125 Pound girl would be somewhere between 5-10 25 mg pills. In medical terms an overdose is ingesting an amount above what is considered the prescribed dose which results in an adverse reaction.

Benedryl is a common drug for suicide as it is potentially lethal and easily obtainable. I am truly sorry you have to go through this.
