Can you have a fractured big toe even if there's no swelling and I can still walk (with some discomfort)?
Question:
I just want to see if it's worth going to pay for x rays and all that crap.so I need to know if you can have a fractured toe without swelling and such.
I had a bad fall today and messed up my big toe pretty bad. It hurts on the first knuckle part (the one closest to the body) on the inside and on the top, especially when im walking on it. But there's no swelling 5 hours later.
My dad says to just not worry about it, but I'm more skeptical than that.
Answers:
Yes.you can have a fractured toe..or any digit on your feet without too much pain. Here's what I'd suggest.IF the pain doesn't increase..that's a good sign. If the pain increases you need to get a medical opion..and yes..possibly an xray. In the mean time..treat your toe well. Take is easy on your toe for a few days..and I mean that. Also..an ice pack might help. You're smart enough to know if your toe needs medical attention.you can tell better than we can..Generally speaking.injured toes are pretty quick to heal. If that isn't happening..geez..go to the doctor.

This is pure hearsay, and sorry for offering it but I heard once that you cant' cast a toe.
Yes its possible. I knew a friend who broke his toe and didnt know it for weeks because he just figured the "discomfort would go away". If the pain doesnt go away, or atleast start getting better in 3 days I would have a dr. check it out.
In your case it has been less than 24 hours so like your dad said, no need to worry about it right now
absoutly you can have a fracture..As a medical professional I recomend seeing a doctor.but realisticly there's not much that can be done..keep it iced, stay of of it as much as possible, if it should swell, increase in pain or really become dis-colored see a doctor immediatly.. When my mom broke her toe, we heard it crack. Then it turned black and swelled up to three times it's normal size so it sounds like you are probably okay.
toes are easy to break and if it dont look bad as like crooked or twisted there wont be alot a doctor can do but to say don t walk on it ,,, i have broke many bones your dad is right my list of bones broke all my fingers and toes some more than 3 times 5 ribs both arm one twice knee cap nose. and over 400 stiches dislocated both knees once and my shoulder. and not all at once.
I broke a bone in my foot and didn't know it for about 8 months. I broke the 5th metatarsal and the pieces healed apart. There was no swelling and because I weigh over 350 there is always some pain in my feet.
The only thing the doctor will do is immobolize your foot as much as possible. Just protect your toe and if you do not have any swelling or pain let it go. It will heal on its own. Often a bruise can hurt more than a break. If you have any discomfort after 10 days see someone. You can no thay cant do much about it. You need to tape your toe to the toe closest to it. it will hold it in place so it can heel.
