Antihistamines, Is it possible to develop a tolerance so they don't work anymore?
Question:
Answers:
Sure it is with all meds and taking more won't help - they are meant to work at that dosage. At this point, I would see an Ear Nose and Throat Doctor to find out what the problem is because there are prescriptions medications that can help.
Also - there is a risk with these meds and sinus meds that using them too often and too much can cause the symptoms that you are trying to treat - oddly enough. For example, people who overuse nasal sprays worsen their condition - quickly, overuse Tylenol - get headaches frequently, etc - so you may be doing this. These are called "rebound effects"
You have to find out the prob - if it is allergies, there are shots - if it is something else - they may be ablte to fix it so you don't need any medication at all. But - OTC for too long is never good - that is why on the back of the packages it normally says to consult a dr if condition worsens or does not improve within X amount of time.
