If you're just unhappy you'll feel unhappy, and certain things will lift your spirits.

If you're depressed its completely different. When you are feeling low, nothing can get you out of it, not even if you won the lottery would you feel any better. Everything seems against you, everything seems futile. You brain will keep bombarding you with thoughts that make you feel even worse, as if you want to keep torturing yourself. Also, you will cry spontaneously, maybe even every day.

I was like this for years before I went to my GP. She gave me some weak antidepressants and they helped me no end. I also cut back on my alcohol intake, improved my diet, and started excercising regularly. Within 3 or 4 months, thanks to my GP and considerable effort on my part, I was absolutely fine. Now, 3 years later, I am still 100% There is a way out, it just takes sustained effort. Also - talk to people, it really helps. Email me if you wish.
