My 5 year old son got bit by something and now the area is red and swollen?

Question:
He got bit on his penis by either an ant or a mosquito, not sure which but now his penis is swollen and red and he wont stop scratching it due to it itching as well. What could cause a reaction that bad and is there anything I can put on it until I can get him either into his doctor or the emergency room?

Answers:
Put a little corisone cream on it, and follow that w/ a dose of benadryl. Poor little guy! Give him a big hug, too.

He may have an allergy to the venom from the bite. The benadryl should help that a lot, and the sedative effect will reduce his scratching. The cortisone cream will also give a more immediate type of relief. Just be sure not to allow it into the urethra.

Other Answers:
ice and calamine lotion
Benadryl, either cream/ointment or the oral syrup.
Go to the doctor now, stop waiting for strangers on the internet to answer you.
Why do you let him run around naked for?

What happens if it was a bee sting?
go buy the benedryl stick and rub it on it will stop the itch, and put an ice cube to help with the swelling
It's probably just a mosquito bite and you can but Vasiline ,Florida water,Rubbing Alcohol ( that might burn a little),or some Aloe Vera.
take him to doc you dont wanna take no chance putting anything on his private area with out a docs consent could cause more reactions
You need to take him the to doctor before you put anything on that area. The skin is too think there to not check with your doctor first. You can give him any type of oral anti-histamine just follow directions for his age. You could put ice on it as well but you need to wrap the ice in serval layers of towels before applying it. The best thing to do is to get him the the doctor asap
if he isn't allergic- give him some benadryl.that should do the trick..if not go see the doc right away.
You should take him into an emergency room, go very early morning to avoid the long wait time. If you decide not to take him to the ER, then you should give him an antihistamine a pediatric dose and childrens motrin for the pain. Observe him closely since you dont know what this thing is. If you have insurance I would not waste any time, take him to an MD.
get him to a doctor quick
