Has anyone broken their 5th metatarsel?

Question:

I broke mine on saturday and wanted to hear some experiences.

I broke mine pretty bad about 6 years ago. I was playing softball and broke it sliding into home plate. I had to have surgery to bring the bone back into alignment and wire it back to the other side. It has healed wonderfully and I have no problems since. Good luck to you.

i work in a hospital A&E x-ray department, and this injury is fairly common. 4th and 5th metatarsal injuries seem to be the most common, usually from some kind of impact injury during a sporting activity. This kind of injury is usually straight forward enough to heal, depending on the degree of injury to the bone and whether the spongy part of the bone is involved.

I have it broken right now. I am in a walking cast for 4 weeks. I tripped while walking at the mall. It is pretty painful- I have been living off of water and my tylonel-3(codeine)! Good Luck!!!

I broke mine last year. It sucked and I was in a cast for several months. I hope you mend quickly. If you get bummed out just remember you're not alone, it happens all the time. Also even though it seems like forever it really will heal if you are good to it.
