How can I care for a cracked bone graft, besides going to the doctor?

Question:
It's a bone graft that cracked, not one of my own bones, so it doesn't hurt and isn't swollen. What should I do to help it heal? How long will it take to heal over?

Answers:
Apply ice. It takes bone anywhere between 10 days and 3 weeks to start to regrow usually. I fully understand the money issue. I fell and broke my hip a year ago in June. The ortho put me on bed rest and said to apply ice. Stay off of it, even if you did mess it up pretty badly, you will be seeing your physician in the morning and you would just be paying $400 for an ER doctor to say that he doesn't want to touch you because you are under a physicians care, here is a pain shot, stay off of it, apply ice, go see your doctor and if you start to run a fever or the pain increases you can certainly come back (oh and pay us another $400)

Good luck. Just make sure you can be seen tomorrow.
GO TO THE DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
