Question:
(cont'd)..stretching the muscle, have I been doing this all wrong? also how long is the recovery time for a strained a muscle? how much longer will it hurt for? any suggestions of anything I can do to help the healing process?

Answers:
OK -
The heat will help but only if you alternate with cold. Should be 15minutes of cold, 15minutes of heat. Try and anti-inflammatory like Advil or aleve and massage it as best you can.

As far as stretching goes ... be careful, you can be doing more damage than help. Try drinking a lot of water to help hydrate your body and it will help too.

It will go away ... If it doesn't, you should go see your family doctor to make sure you haven't TORN the muscle.

rest and relax...

Other Answers:
take some ibuprofen or another anti inflammatory pain killer
other than going to the doctor to make sure that you didn't rip the muscle you are doing everything that you can. YOu can also use ice on it for 15 to 20 mintues every 40 mintues to help with the pain and any swelling that you might have. As for the healing process it just depends on how quickly your body repairs itself and how badly you strained the muscle. Good luck with it.
