Do severely sprained ankles ever get better?

Question:
Sprained ankle several years ago. It gives out without warning, causing re-spraining several times a year. Is usually swollen by the end of the day and frequently locks up after resting.

Answers:
I also suffer from sprained ankles. Due to too many sports injuries, I ended up having to have the ligaments and tendons surgically shortened in both ankles. The left still gives out on a regular basis, swells and occasionally locks. I would recommend that you have an orthopedist take a look at the ankle to make sure that you did not tear or severely lengthen the tendons or ligaments. The way it was explained to me was that they're like rubber bands. They'll only spring back so many times and each time they're injured, they'll only go back so far into their original shape. Good luck!

Other Answers:
Yes, it does take time. Actually you should wrap it every time you are about to do Physical activity - running, long walks, playing ball etc. Also when it sweels, out it up for a while.

In most severe sprains, there is tendon tearing and you will always have some kind of permanent disability.maybe you should take correct treatment.Calcium tablets, vitamins, will do some good.Other than that, there's not much you can do.
