What is that small ridge on your top-ish midde-lish upper lip and or under your nose, whats it for?

Question:

Answers:
It's called a philtrum, and it doesn't have much a purpose in modern times or when you get older but when you are a tiny fetus, your nose and mouth are much closer together. The philtrum could be the little path your nose travels to get to the right place on your face.

It's not for anything, but the two areas of skin form, and then fuse together, in the womb. When they fuse it creates that ridge.

Some documentary, I think on the Discovery Channel.
purpose of the philtrum there isnt one. As our tiny embryonic selves are developing,
the right and left sides are merged at various points on the body, leaving
a raphe at the meeting point. Other raphes can be found on the middle of
the tongue, in the dent under the point of your chin, and other, far more
personal parts of your body.
