My sleep schedule is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off?

Question:
i can't go to sleep at night because my sleep is way off. EX. I fall asleep at 4am and I wake up at 2 in the afternoon. I do my absolut best to sleep but no such luck. I"m 14 and this isn't good. Help please..

Answers:
Yeah i've been through this too. Personally it's really difficult but once I was up at 3am and listening to the radio and some guy from Imperial College was talking about sleep. There are a couple of things he said, but some of the good ones were

1. Wake up early in the morning
2-fold, put an alarm clock somwhere away from your bed so you have to get up to shut it. Secondly put another alarm clock somewhere else at a later time because you're bound to go back to bed. The reason for this is to make you tired consistantly. Not only that, but it's about getting morning sunshine. The sunlight in the morning is actually good for you (don't ask me why), but it actually aids in keeping your body clock in rhythem. So try and get loads of morning sunlight - so leave your curtains wide open.

Another tip is not to eat after 8pm, that makes your stomach work and by the time you're about the sleep your body is full of energy which makes your brain more active.

Try drinking warm milk 20 mins before bed

Go find some relaxing music (jazz works) or even better, find some audio books. Lie in bed and listen to someone talk, soon, if you're a little tired, you'll nod off quite nicely.

A lot of times when you can't sleep, it's usually because of some problem, or some stress in your life. You're 14, maybe you really like some girl, or have issues with something. When I couldn't sleep it was because a, i was a lazy git, and b, i was worried about my exams. So if there is something wrong, try and deal with it and be firm with yourself, make a plan. I made myself get up at 7 everyday but still found it hard to go to sleep early. But after a week I couldn't keep my eyes open after 1, and now everything's cool.

Good Luck

That is really really bad!!! Especially since you are 14.
You have to stay awake today. Don't go to sleep. You have to stay up through the tired feelings until at least 5pm-6pm and then you can go to bed. You have to keep yourself busy between now and then.
Can i ask you dear what you do during a day?
maybe you are so tie rd and it cause you have not deep and normal sleep , in fact our body need 8 hours sleep and it not diff rent for our mind that what time is.
just sleep deep 8 hours per day . good luck dear!
If you can't sleep tonight and you stay up until 4am, you need to try to stay up all day then and go to bed at a decent hour. Set an alarm then for the morning and get up with it so that you are up all day tomorrow. This should straighten out your schedule.
I have the same problem now, but maybe you should try staying awake as long as you possibly can today, and then going to sleep AFTER 8pm or so. Make sure you get at least 8 hours of sleep, but dont sleep too long. That will cause you to be tired and want to sleep even more. If you have trouble going to sleep, try using an over-the-counter sleep medicine to get you back into a normal sleep pattern. But be careful not to over-use them. I have alson found that a hot shower and turning off the TV will help you get to sleep faster and feel more relaxed before bed. Good luck! If you still have problems sleeping after trying all of the suggestions on here, maybe you should talk to your paernts about it. They may have you go to your doctor and get tested for thyroid disorders. My brother had the same problem and after getting his thyroid regulated, he started sleeping better and on a more normal schedule.
