what to do when dissolveable stitches, are not dissolving?

Question:
had rib resection 6 weeks ago, about a week ago incision inflammed, pus and some blood coming out. Also have had 2 stitiches come out that are about 2 inches long. I thought dissolveable meant just that dissolveable

Answers:
It sounds like mabye they used the wrong stitches and they are not dissolvable. Also it sounds like your wound is infected it could be due to the stitches still being in. You need to go to the doctor because if you do have an infection it gets worse rapidly. You need antibiotics ASAP. Also have the stitches removed.

i would call your md. it may be infected. sometimes depending on the area they can take awhile to absorb
Dissolvable stitches are actually meant to last for weeks to months. They are broken down by an immune reaction in the body. Your body takes about 6 weeks to heal enough that you don't need the stitches, so they need to last that long.

If you have pus and blood, that sounds like an infection and you should call your surgeon ASAP. If the infection goes into the bone or lung it will be a bugger to treat.

Sometimes your body can spit the stitches out. Also, sometimes surgeons use stitches inside that don't dissolve.
They like anything else in this world don't always work.
