after surgery discomfort?

Question:
ok.so last friday i had arthoscopic surgery done on my shoulder.surgery hasn't been painful.have only taken 3 days of pain meds.BUT what's killing me is the bandage..the staples are itching.the tape on the huge bandage is pulling my skin.making me really uncomfy.doc told me when i left the hospital to leave it on til i see him and keep it dry..don't see him til tuesday..this is going to kill me til then..any suggestions?

Answers:
I would leave the bandage on. maybe try some benadryl? that also helps with the itching, I used it when I had casts on both of my feet because I had surgergy and It was extreamly itchy so I took benadryl and it worked. good luck..

Other Answers:
Keep it on taking it off to early can do more damage then good

Chill out and get the rest you need for your recovery. Consider yourself lucky to be alive.some don't make it through surgery Sorry, the only one who removes a postop dressing is the surgeon him- or herself. Period. Keep the dressing dry, clean and intact until your postop follow up. You'll just have to grin (or not) and bear it. The suggestion for Benadryl (diphenhydramine) to help control the itching may work.

When it itches, that means it's healing. Leave the bandage on to keep it clean. If you take the bandage off or mess with the incision, you may get an infection, which will make things even worse!

I would suggest called your doctor to see what you can do before you are seen.is there redness around the bandage like you are allergic to the bandage?..as far a the staples itching this is just part of the healing.I wouldn't recommend taking the bandage off until you speak to someone in the doctors office.
