Depends on whether or not you are on the antibiotics to treat it. I got a really bad sore throat for a couple of weeks. Since it was just sore, I didn't think about going to the doctor until I couldn't eat or drink anything because it hurt too much to swallow. Once I got the antibiotics, I was eating within three days. And better within a week.
I have had it several times. It usually lasts about 7 to 10 days. I feel for you that's the sickest I've ever been
