Sore throat caused by bad tonsils?

Question:
I seem to get sore throats pretty often. I'm a fit person, I eat generally healthy foods, I don't smoke or drink heavily, yet I still get sore throats. Not to mention, when I get them, they last for a long time. I had one this summer that lasted for 4 weeks, no joke! I can come up with no reason as to why I get them. I've been to doctors, and they tell me nothing.

I'm been wondering if its possible that the sore throats are caused by my tonsils. I know some people have them removed at a young age, or later in life. Would getting them removed help me out? Anyone have any sources which link sore throats as a direct effect of 'bad' tonsils?

Answers:
Sore throats can be caused by allergies, the nasal drainage that you might not be aware off. Go see an ENT, ear nose throat specialist to check out the tonsils. And then if needed see an allergy specialist.

Tonsils are generally not removed when a person is an adult. But you should be able to have someone look at them when your throat is sore (using flashlight) or you can try in a mirror. Are there spots on them? What color, red or white?

Also, try gargling with very warm water and salt every night before you go to bed and see if that helps.
Now see the specialist!
are your glands swollen just up under your jawbone on each side whre the tonsils are located? are you having white pockets in your throat or stomache pain accompanying the sore throat? you may be contracting strep throat which is an infection that's very painful to the throat. you really should go back to your dr. and have them test you for strep my daughter had it running 3 months in a row and was caused by allergies but some people can be carriers. Good Luck
