The cost of health care is amazing, but so is the ability to save and push life further and further out. Technology has made great strides, but should each and every person be saved, be given every single treatment that exists? I am asking because we have changed our mindset about this over the years. Now even the very old are routinely given a bypass..everyone who goes in an ER is given an MRI it seems..My point is, that at some point there really is a cost/benefit that has to be done, especaiily for those without the money to pay. There is not enough money in the world to give everyone, everythings. In Canada and most other socialized medicine countries, medical care, certain tests, procedures etc are routinly rationed.
I have a defribllrlator put in, and the bill to the insurance company was over $100,000. They actually paid $68K for it. I have used way more than most in terms of $$ of insurance, but I can't afford everything I need done. I have cancer right now I have to let slide because I dont have the money, but I see a cardiologist all the time, because my choice is heart over cancer since I only have the money to treat one.
No one wants to see someone else do without, but our healthcare system is in crisis and the oney is just not there. Over 60% of all births in Dallas county are to illegals. Not one of them pays a dime for their care, or the often times extrodinary care given to the babies, esp those that are early or have other life threating ailments.
The few that can pay, dont have the money to make up for all that dont or cant.
