What makes people dizzy? I saw a lady from NASA passout on tv today. What is Dizzy?

Question:
I always thought it was lack of air or blood?

Answers:
Three things are responsible for balance.
1. Visual system (eyes for determining horizon)

2. Somatosensory (sense of gravity and musculature to resist and hold your posture)

3. Vestibule and semicircular canals of the innner ear.

The Vestibule senses acceleration and deceleration (up,down, forward, back).
The 3 canals sense angular/rotational acceleration and deceleration.(pitch, yaw, roll)

These three systems provide information to the brain regarding the bodys relation in a static or dynamic environment.

Any disruption of one or more these signals to the brain, and one wants to "toss their cookies".

Fortunately the NASA scientist was not dizzy per se, but lightheaded probably due to reacclimation to earth's gravity.
Peolple can get dizzy from anything sea sick, car sick, and when one makes a lot of turns are examples of dizzines. And yes it is lack of air and blood.
