How do you get watery diarrhea under control without over the counter medication?

Question:
I felt sick to my stomach Friday afternoon. I thought I hadn't gotten enough sleep and had gotten to hot. Well my stomach got really bloated and the next day I had diarrhea everytime I turned around. I am having bad abdominal cramping around my belly button. I have IBS and it hurts me to take stuff like imodium so i am looking for some other alternatives without having to go to the doctor. There is a stomach bug going around so i don't htink this is something serious. I just want to feel better.

Answers:
you can take some rice, boil it, and just before the water gets absorbed by the rice put it in a cup and drink it. also bananas and toast will help dry you up. go cautiously because the rice water will realy plug you up then you will have the opposite problem--can't go.

Other Answers:
You need to see a doctor. he'll help you.

Eat a lot of cheese. However you should probably see a doctor, you may have an infection, food poisoning, or possibly harmful bacteria in your stomach Actually did you know most stomach flu and bugs are actually caused by eating contaminated foods? But anyhow, you gotta regulate your BM's. Eat fibrous foods, crackers will help firm up the stools but you don't want to go too far and be constipated. Eat crackers and soups, breads for a day, then start back in a normal diet but add some fruits and make sure you drink alot of water to push things through. For the cramps, try a moist hot pack.

do your best not to go at all so your body can start to reabsorb the liquid. diarrhea is your intestines not working and stuff goes straight through. works for me!

Use the BRAT Diet.Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast.

If you have a stomach upset (due to eating bad food etc) a teaspoon of cumin is known to help. Also try squeezing a fresh lemon into your drinking water for mild assistance. In Africa, they use a blend of water, sugar, and salt. It must be the correct measurements so maybe you should do a google search for it. It has saved many babies lives in Africa so it must work. It was also the inspiration behind gatoraid, which will hydrate you more quickly than water.

gatorade to prevent dehydration. i eat apples, somehow it makes my poo stick together. hope it helps. seeing a doctor is the best of course.

the only option you have is to let nature run its course. Be sure you drink plenty of fluids and keep your eating to a minimum. Fluids will help flush the virus out of you and also keep you from dehydrating. If it lasts longer than another 3-4 days, I would see a doc to make sure you dont have a bacterial infection of some kind. If you do feel like eating, eat starchy foods like plain rice or toast. Avoid greasy foods and sugary foods. Good luck.

I agree with the above suggestion- apples are binding foods and also the BRAT diet sounds great. Dont eat foods with a lot of fiber because fiber will not help. In fact, people take fiber to maintain healthy bowel movements when they are constipated.
