my first eye exam, today?

To answer your first question, give your eyes a little more time. You may be more sensitive than most to the dilating drops. If they haven't fully recovered in another 2 hours, or just before the Optometry office closes, contact them. In the meantime, rest your eyes.
As far as your second question, a postive number (+) indicates far-sightedness (hyperopia) and a negative number (-) indicates near-sightedness (myopia). The greater the number the more severe the condition. Your number, -1.00, indicates mild myopia in both eyes.
I must say I'm surprised your vision wasn't discussed with you by your Optometrist during your visit.
