Can you sprain your toe jogging w/o knowing it?

Question:
I've been jogging double what I used to the last 2 weeks or so & today I woke up w/ 2nd toe tender, and when I tried to jog, I couldn't for more than 5 min.

Did I injure it & it showed up next day? It's obviously not broken or anything; but anyone else had this?

Answers:
Try resting for a few days (you can still exercise - ride a bike, swim, elliptical), ice the toe for 15 minutes if it is painful, take an anti-inflammatory for the pain and inflammation (swelling). If the toe gets swollen, elevate it above your heart while you ice. If the pain does not subside, then you may have a moderate sprain or fracture of the toe. You should see an orthopedic physician who specializes in foot and ankle. There are many ways you could have injured your toe. You may have hurt it while running or this could be a chronic problem due to improper shoeware or foot mechanics. The physician will be able to help you or refer you to a physical therapist who can evaluate your walk, consider the need for orthotics (shoe inserts), and help you return to activity.
Good luck!
You can cause pain to your toes due to improper shoes. Jogging in them won't help the matter. Even if you did break it I don't think they'll cast it. It'll just have to heal
