CFIDS seems to be triggered by stress or trauma. I have had it for many years and for 6 years ran a group at the local hospital for people with CFIDS and/or Fibromyalgia. My own personal, unscientific, feeling (from my work with about 300 people), that this is something that some of us are prone to and possibly had for years in a mild form and then was triggered at some point by trauma or stress, either physical or emotional. I finally got control of this illness, for myself, by eliminating stress and with the help of supplements that my body needed (determined by specific types of blood work).
