Did I break my nose?

Question:
Did I break my nose?

When I was about 10 or 11 (I'm 15 now) I slipped while leaning over a coffee table and I banged my nose (and chipped my tooth) on the table. My parent's said they could hear a loud crash even though I was in the farthest room. I remember I didn't feel anything, just like someone had hit me in the face with a dodgeball. Then my nose started to gush out blood.
We thought it was just a normal injury, but ever since then my nose has been in a crooked shape and the cartilege has moved too, now one nasal passage is huge and I can't breathe out of the other one.
So did I break my nose? The cartilege only seems to be affected, but I need to know. Also, is there any way to treat it?

Answers:
you certainly sound like you deviated a septum, and most likely broke the nose. The only way to correct it is through surgery, sorry. They re-break the nose and fix the excess cartilage by removing it. Your insurance will cover it, most likely.

Only thing you can do is have it rebroken and straightened out.Should clear up the sinus thing..Take care

You can have a good rhinoplasty surgeon take a look at it Im sure they can fix it , especially if you are having difficulty breathing Doesnt sound good, go see a doctor.

Look if it is NOT broken it is seriously damaged! Go see a Doc and get REAL help!

Hahahahahaha sucks.

been there-done that. yes your nose was probably broken. the only thing you can do now is have it surgically straightened you definitely broke it and you should either re-break it and set it your self or go to a ear, nose, and throat doctor

Yes you did break your nose. Your nose is mostly made up of cartilidge with a little section of bone behind it. You need to see your doctor and he/she will refer you to an orthopedic specialist or an Ear/Nose/Throat doctor to correct the problem.

http://www.plasticsurgery.org/public_education/procedures/Rhinoplasty.cfm When it is re-broken you will have black-eyes for about two weeks, ice and tea bags will help, but tell people ahead of time if you don't want the crap people spew when they see you again for the first time, without knowing what you've had done.
