If you get cold sores, you have one of the strains of the herpes virus.
But it's not the strain that causes genital herpes... they are different variants. Cold sores are HSV1... genital herpes are from HSV2 although a person can develop HSV1 in the genital area if someone with cold sores spreads it to the genital area of a partner thru oral sex.
You don't contract HSV1 through sexual relations usually but just through oral contact. So it's very easy to develeop HSV1 and most of the population has it. So if you were kissed as a baby by someone who had HSV1, then you could have contracted it.
HSV1 can show up in different ways, so your parents, or one of them, may have it but are either asymptomatic or don't show "typical" signs of it.
Herpes virus remains dormant in the system and flairs when a person is sick or under stress, exposed to sunlight, etc. So that's why you're getting them after you've been sick.

I get coldsoars to..not very often but about 1 or 2 a year. There are the kind that come from herpes than the ones that come from chapped lips or stuff like that(thats the kind I have I dont have herpes or anything lol) Anyways dont worry about it, they should go away fast and if they dont go talk to your octor and he can probably do something for you. As far as I know Cold soars dont present any real medical harm(unless they are a sign of herpes but you sed they werent so yea)

yeah dude dont be worried, cold sores are caused by a virus and usually signify that u are still growing, when u get older u tend to not have as many. u get them before or after u are sick because its your body supping itself up to attack the virus, even if it means attacking the opening of the mouth usually where the virus came in at. Dont be afraid this doesnt mutate into the std
herpes isn't always only contracted by sexual contact. even genital herpes can be spread other ways. if they're true cold sores, then yes you have herpes. if either of your parents ever in their lives had a cold sore, then they too have herpes. many people with the herpes viruses never have any symptoms at all and even if they have had them, it's a very hard disease for a doctor to diagnose.

Don't worry, it is genetic. I get them to...go to the grocery store and buy some powdered alum. It is in the spice isle. It's white powder that you can dip a q-tip in, and put it right on your sore. It is totally nasty and it will sting really bad for a while, but mine always go away within 2 days after that. My mom used it on me when I was a kid, and I have been using it instead of medicine for 25 years.
Don't worry, I get cold sores all the time. I been having them since I was born. I get them usually after I am sick or after being in the sun too much. I have a way to get rid of it. . I use abreva and after it drys I pick and pop the sore with a needle. May sound gross but thats how I get rid of them.

OMG! Me too. Well i also get coldsores, and unfortunetley it is a type of herpes. You can take these "LYSINE vitamin pills" that help your immune system fight of the infection and prevent you from getting coldsores. If you get a cold sore use "Zilactin" you can get it at your local pharmacy.
the real answer can be canker sores. The best and most painless way is to rinse your mouth with salt and water for a week. or you go to the beach an get water into your mouth a swish.

It is a virus that remains in your body connected to your nervous system (the ganglia). Normally, your immune system keeps it from flaring up, but when your immune system is compromised, like when you get another virus, such as a cold, you get sunburned, or when you are overly stressed, the virus can manifest itself again in a skin eruption at the same place it entered your body.

The most important thing I want you to know is that IT IS TREATABLE BY A DOCTOR!!! The over-the-counter creams are worthless, at least they did nothing for me except cost a lot. The sores go away in few weeks without treatment anyway. There are antiviral drugs which work to prevent and treat genital herpes that are used on cold sores too. Zovirax is what I recommend. It comes in a pill or an ointment, and both your dentist and regular doctor can prescribe it. I use the pill if I sense an outbreak coming on and it will actually prevent the cold sore from happening. If you get frequently recurring outbreaks, you can get a prescription to take it daily. If I get an outbreak, then I switch to the ointment, so try to get both and keep them handy if your doctor will prescribe both. You have to treat it several times a day if you get an outbreak, but once you start to treat it, it shouldn't get bigger. Make sure the doctor prescribes the small tube ointment so you can keep it on hand throughout the day when you need to apply every 2-3 hours.
You need to start "listening" to your body to determine what precursor signs (symptoms that occur before your outbreak) you have. You will get a tingling sensation at the eruption point before the outbreak, but also other signs. I get a bad headache and/or back pain, plus I get irritable when the virus is trying to erupt. It took me 20 years to figure out that I get an outbreak a few days after smoking pot, so I had to give it up! Remember, it's a chronic infection of the NERVOUS SYSTEM, not a skin problem. People who act like it's no big deal are ignorant. It is treatable and INFECTIOUS, in addition to making you feel bad about your face!
