How long do cortisone shots work at relieving the pain?

Question:
I overused one of the tendons in my wrist and was diagnosed with moderate tendinitis. I tried braces, rest, icing, and asprin but nothing worked. So today I got a cortisone shot in my wrist(10 seconds of pure agony). With all the pain, I didn't even ask the doctor how long it would be sore for, or for how long the pain would be relieved. Does anyone know? Because I never want to have to get another injection.

Answers:
I always heard that cortisone have some nasty permanent damages and secondary effects. Do not trust Doctors, not all Doctors are good, not all Doctors are capable, they do not necessarily care about you. It is your body and mind, you must get information yourself, get second and third and fourth opinions before deciding the beast thing to do. If I was in your shoes, I would not go to general practice Doctors, I would go to specialist Doctors, and if I have the money I would choose private Doctors not Public ones, because your problem is serious. Good luck.

Other Answers:
I had cortisone shots in my foot because of Plantar's fasciitis. My doctor told me that the soreness might last a couple of days and the pain relief from the cortisone shot varies with different people - some people get instant relief and it lasts a couple of weeks or longer, others it doesn't last at all. The first one I got lasted several weeks, but subsequent shots didn't seem to last more than a few days.
It varies from person to person and joint to joint. Just wait until you feel it start to crystallize that is more fun than the injection for me (sarcasm here) Mine worked for like 2 weeks maybe 3 and I was not able to get another for 6 weeks. that was8 years ago and now i just deal with the pain or take and obscene amount of anti inflammatories.
I hear some people say that it last them for a long time others say it has cure them, but for me it only lasted for 2 maybe 3 days' Once i told the doctor that it lasted for about 4 days but that was not the truth i felt sorry for the doctor i wanted his cure to work i guess
It should last for up to several months. My daughter has arthritis and when she flares up she gets cortisone injections in her wrist, fingers and one toe. She's usually good for several months and sometimes longer.

You might try occupational therapy and see if they can do something to help the tendons.
