Have you or anyone you know had Lasik eye surgery?

Question: I've had to wear glasses my whole life starting at age 3 and it soooo sucked now i'm 27 i have a job and no kids and i figured "hey i can afford it, why not" the doctor gave me a list of references but i would rather ask someone that dosnt come from the doctor. What can i expect during and after the sergury. My insurance will pay 15% of it so it comes out to about 1200 each eye. I know there are cheaper ones but with something like this i dont want to find the cheapest, you know that saying "u get what u pay for". what r your thoughts on Lasik....go for it or go buy more contacts and why?

I had lasik eye surgery after wearing glasses for over 20 years. I would recommend it. =)
I also went for the best as opposed to the cheapest. I once opened my eyes under water with my contacts on...!! It's great not to have glasses....wear cool sunglasses instead!
It does not, however, correct farsightedness. Back to glasses for reading! hehe

My brother had Lasik done on him about 4 years ago and he's never looked back. His vision is pretty much perfect now and there are no side effects or anything. It's very safe and I'd say the costs are justified since you won't have to buy expensive contacts or glasses anymore for the rest of your life (the costs could easily add up to more than the price of the Lasik.) Plus, you'll be able to see your feet in the shower now :)

my mom had Lasik eye surgery. She can see better but she still has to wear reading glasses in order to read! She paid like 4000 dollars. I f I paid 4000 I would not want to have to wear anything every again. that's a lot of money.

I've been thinking about having it done, but I can think of no worse fate than ending up blind. There is also no way I would ever spend $2400 (and especially not $4000) on contacts and glasses in my lifetime.

A co-worker had it done and it worked well for her. However, the risks are unacceptably high for me. I've done some research...although the failures are relatively few, they do exist - and when it goes wrong there is no cure. I'm too much of a wuss to take the chance. But research it and make a decision based on risks vs. benefits. Only you can decide what's right for you!
