if someone were attacked and cut on the neck, how long would they typically spend recovering in the hospital?

Question:
A fictional character is attacked from behind by a person with a knife, trying to cut their throat. The victim escapes, but collapses from loss of blood after a few minutes. They are rushed to the emergency room, where they are revived. In this scenario, would the victim be admitted to the hospital, and if so, for how long? If the victim collapsed from lack of blood, does that mean a major vein was cut in their neck? If so, how is this repaired, medically?

Answers:
That can be a life threatening situation as for recovery I guess it takes a long time. For example I've cut my fingers (like 3mm deep) two weeks ago and they still didn't remove the stitches. Imagine a cut on the neck.......
you consult the doctor.
