Depends on many things..such as your age, hx. of diabetes, depth of cut, type of cut i. e. slice, blunt edge trauma, clean cut, dirty cut, puncture would, crushing injury with bruising, etc. Do you need a tetanus shot? Sutures? Is the wound well approximated...do the edges match? Best to clean first with peroxide to kill any thing lurking, and remove debris, then povodine betadine or iodine, it generally kills everything antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal etc. and relieves the pain. If the edges are together you won't need to butterfly it and you can use a wet ointment like bacitracin or polysporin. If the edges need a little nudging to avoid a scar keep it dryer don't use ointment just the povodine iodine and place one edge of bandaid on dry skin next to wound, place the no stick part directly over the wound and pull taught and stick other side to dry skin again. You will need two bandaids cut up especially if there is bleeding to absorb drainage. Change bandage twice a day and reclean and reapply topicals and redress. Good luck!!
