my son (2 1/2 years) is suffering from fits from one week. Doctors checked CT scan and MRI scan they said they are all normal. But in EGG report some abnormality is found and fits are coming. Doctor gave Epton and Epilex but inspite of reducing the fits are came 10 times in one day. Is there any medicine to cure it immediatelu

I wish..by the time this reply is read by you, your son would have recovered and wish him a speedy recovery..
CT scan and MRI are used to diagnose whether any "space occupying lesions" like tumours or bleeding etc are there inthe brain ..okay ?
EEG record the charges created by the brain and tell us any abnormal/extra impulses are created by the brain tissue. In cases like fits or convulsions, the diagnosis is made by this extra or abnormal waves created. Itis recorded in the form of mappings and read by experienced neurologists.
Once the diagnosis is made, medications are started off..and different patients respond in different ways and to different dosages.
So adjusting the dosage to individual patients will be done by the Neurologists !
In paediatric group, high temperature has been found to causing convulsions and it is our responsibility as parents to ensure that the fever is controlled at the earliest, especially for children who has had febrile convulsions at least once.
If the children dont respond by medicines, "cold compress" should be started immediately.

If the convulsions are not due to fever in paediatric age group, other testings like CT scan and MRI will be done.

Anyway, if I had been in your position, I would have had an open discussion with the consultant. since he is the BEST judge of the occasion !

Please stay with your doctor and see what he says. Do let him know your child is having seizures (fits) and let him know how many times a day. The doctor is familiar with what medications are out there and knows which medications will be helpful for your child. Do not refer to people on here who are NOT doctors. It may be helpful in future to keep a diary of your child's seizures, what time they happen and what he is doing at the time. Also keep a diary of whatever foods he is eating for the doctor.
