If you have a an aloe vera plant - that is by far the best thing. Cut a strip off the plant and then cut it in half and spread the inside jelly over the sunburn. It cools and heals. Do this as often as you need to. If you don't have that - then go out and buy Aloe Vera gel - or some combination of that and Vitamin E - don't put creams on it right away -because that traps the heat in and you need your skin to be able to release the heat. When it settles down then put creams on - and again use those with Vit. E and Aloe Vera. If you can find the gel - it's so worth it. A pharmacy or health food store should have it. I have put ice on burns - just to bring the temperature down (ice packs wrapped with a thin cloth - so as not to hurt my skin) and it helps a lot if the burn is painful. Lukewarm baths - cooling the water down while you're in there - running cold water - helps too. But get some aloe vera gel - I recommend that HANDS DOWN. Remember no oils or creams - it will trap the heat and make you feel worse. Wait till your body temp lowers (and Tylenol can help with that as well.) Also DRINK LOTS OF WATER - skin needs water for hydration - that will help a lot. WATER not juice or pop. Good luck.

Vinegar! It's VERY soothing to sunburn.
aloe vera gel. it will take the heat out aloe vera w/ lanacane(sp) it numbs the pain and heals it.
Aloe and vitamin E. General lotions are also very helpful, like Lubriderm or something. If you find yourself laying around, a wet towel over your burn will actually tend to soothen the pain A LOT too.

Ibuprofen to reduce the swelling, and any relief product that DOESN'T contain alcohol. Alcohol dries the skin even more. Some of my friends insist on boiling water, putting in tea bags, then cooling the water, soaking a cloth in the tea water, and draping the clothes over the burnt skin. Go out and BUY an aloe plant. The pure gel works the best, and they are inexpensive and easy to care for. You just break off a little piece from the end and squeeze the gel directly onto your skin, then gently spread it over the burn. These work great on all other kinds of burns as well.
Best product I have found is made by Banana Boat, called
Sooth-A-Caine Aloe Vera Spray Gel with Lidocaine. It cools your skin when you spray it on, and it dries quickly. Does not feel gooey and gel like. The Lidocaine is a numbing med and helps to ease the burn. Have used it for about 2 years now and swear by it. You can get it at any Wal Mart, Target, K Mart. and is priced between 3-5 dollars.
