was bug bite now painful scab?

Question:
Okay so I got bite and scratched the bite. It bled and formed a scab. I scratched off the scab 2 times. Now it is a black scab with a maroon like color 1 millimeter ring around it. Its very painful to touch.

Answers:
the black color is coming from old blood that has now dried underneath the new scab that has formed.

try not to touch or scratch the scab off anymore-it needs to finish healing.

you can use benadryl cream or hydrocortisone cream to help relieve the itching-you can also take benadryl tablets 25-50mg every 4-6 hours as needed but it's best to take those at night b/c they can make you very sleepy. you can also take ibuprofen (motrin) for pain and swelling. take 200-400mg every 6 hours but do NOT take more than 1200mg in 24 hours

things to watch for that would indicate the bite is becoming infected:
1. you develop a fever of 101 or greater
2. the bite starts swelling
3. you have red lines extending from the bite out towards the rest of your body ( you need to see a dr asap for this-it means infection has gotten into your bloodstream)
4. the bite begins to drain yellowish-brown or green colored drainage.

any of the above symptoms require a trip to the emergency room or urgent care so you can get i.v or oral antibiotics to treat and kill the infection.

sounds like you just really irritated the area from scratching it to much-just try your hardest not to scratch it and let it finish healing and you should be fine

Good lord. Never ever do that....You'll probably have a scar. Put some Polysporin on it and hope for the best...
Infection perhaps? Stop picking at it and scratching it 'cause it only gets bug bites worse. Get it checked out by your doctor. He/she might give you a cream to relieve the pain/itching and help heal it.
Try putting some anti-biotic cream and a bandaid on it, and leave one on until it is healed so you don't scratch it anymore. Oh, and it's infected.
