Is there anything harmful about putting vicks vapor rub in your nose?

This is something mothers have done for decades, but is officially frowned on. I think it would burn if the area is raw from the cold. Anyway, you don't put it in your nose so much as around the nostrils.

I know several people doing that. It seems relaxing on their part to have something cold under their noses. I haven't seen any medical complications whatsoever.
