I get leg aches at night when trying to sleep. What causes this and how can i control it ?
Question:
Answers:
Ouch! That happens to me, too. Sometimes night cramps can be cured by increasing the amount of calcium (milk, Tums, or whatever) and potassium (orange juice, bananas) in your diet.
But when at attack hits, the thing to remember is to curl your toes UP. Think of it as trying to point your toes toward your head. Unfortunately, most people have the opposite reaction. They instinctively point their toes down, as if they were standing on tip-toe. That may seem better, but it is the worst thing to do. Point them up, and HOLD them there until the pain goes away--usually 5 or 10 seconds.
Good luck!
Other Answers:
you are not getting enough potassium. eat more bananas and you should be allright
It may be a blood sugar issue, such as diabetes or hypoglycemia. You may want to see your doctor. When a family member of mine got really bad charlie horses at night, he went to the doctor, and his blood sugar was really high.
sounds like you might be low in potassium; try eating more bananas and see if that helps. If not go to your doctor

Lots of people say to put a bar of Ivory soap under your sheets and the cramps will go away,I have never had them, but its a cheap fix.
sounds like you might have restless leg syndrome.Check with your doctor.
you could have restless leg syndome. Its no big deal talk to your doctor about it and they will give you some meds that you take right before bed.
could be loss of potassium from excessive sweating during the day or some drugs or maybe restless leg syndrome from lack of circulation. try some over the counter potassium tablets or an old home remedy is to place a new bar of soap under your sheets at night when u sleep. crazy but try it.
Well I can truly relate to this, After I had my children I suffer all the time and it is from several things. First lack of potassium so try eating on or two bananas a day or taking a supplement if you don't like them. Second is not enough water. If you get thirsty you are already dehydrated. So drink up and any type fluid helps this problem milk, water, sports drink and even soda pop (I don't recommend it but it will work too ) the next Item is calcium yes this is strange but you have little do i dare call them critters in side your body that when you don't get enough calcium that they take it from your bones and this makes little holes in them and it is redeposited in your blood stream. this over time can cause cramps as well. So it depends on what is going on really. I'm sure it is mostly mussels thought so try it and see.
Depends on your age, it may be growing pains if you're young.
Potassium deficiencies can cause it, as mentioned by others, but apples tend to be a better source of potassium than bananas even, though if you eat the hard stem piece at the bottom of the banana you should be getting plenty that way.
Most fruits, especially fresh, are high in potassium and low in sodium. Sodium reduces the available amount of potassium, so reduce sodium intake if high. Sodium occurs more in boxed, bagged and canned foods than people generally add themselves. You need both, in proper ratio, more potassium than sodium by about 9 times I've found. Potassium stores longer in the body, and can poison if over done, so eat already balanced products such as whole, unmodified foods.
Apples can also balance blood sugar if you have diabetes, if it's high, apples will tend to lower it, if it's low, they'll raise it. This is true ,again, of most fresh fruits if eaten by themselves, and not over done. Vegetables tend to lower blood sugar, and have more calcium than most fruits.
Other deficiencies, or injuries, are also possible causes.
Since you didn't specify all the possible factors, no diagnosis can be properly administered, until you've consulted someone competent enough, to ask all the necessary questions of what you may do, or have had happen, which could cause this. So please consult a competent dietitian, or doctor of some kind to help you if none of the answers here help.
