what are stem cells?how are they useful to human beings how r they produced & transplanted .?

Question:

Answers:
Stem cells are a basic type of cell before it becomes more specialized. They are harvested legally from the umbilical cord. A parent can choose to save the baby's umbilical cord for this purpose later in the child's life. The huge debate over stem cell research is that parent's might be tempted to get pregnant and abort a second child to save the first child.

There are currently 21 parent stem cells listed in this country available for research. I'm not sure where these 21 controls came from.

Stem cells can be manipulated to become any cell in the body. If someone ends up with diabetes, it is theoretically possible to induce a stem cell to turn into a isle of Langerhans cell and produce a portion of the pancreas to replace the diabetic pancreas. Same goes with cancerous cells. A stem cell can be manipulated to become bone marrow to boost up the red blood cell count.

This should help, try searching the web before asking the question, it took me exactly ten seconds to find this website, and all I did was type in stem cells.
Stem cells are unassigned cells that can turn into any type of cells needed for the body to grow. This could be revolutionary in the treatment of damaged organs and diseases.

However, the major source of these cells are generally from newborn children (umbillical cords, cordblood), or from embryos, which causes a huge ethics argument.
Stem cells are the cells that form humans and our organs. Scientists could use them to grow new organs for patients that need them. They are made when an egg is fertilized by sperm and start to form a baby. They can be taken out of the womans uterus or even the egg can be taken out and fertiliized by someone and put in something so it can grow.
We would know more about what stem cells could do, if George Bush would have allowed expansion of Stem Cell research. But his personal religious beliefs got in the way of science.

Stem cells can do a whole lot. Already they are developing ways to create parts of the body that will cure cure diabetes with one's own cells. Imagine that! However the Insulin companies would go out of business and we wouldn't want that, now would we?
Stem cells are new cells which are produced in your bone marrow. to transplant them, they first have to stimulate them to over production so they can be harvested. once they have enough harvested then they can be transplanted.

stem cells are like a blank peice of paper. They take the properties of the cells that are next to it.

For example a stem cell placed next to a skin cell will become a skin cell.

A person with serious nerve damage would beneift the most from stem dells. They could, theoretically, regenerate lost nerves. Christopher Reeves could walk.

Unfortunatanely, This research is severley handicapped by the religous right.
Stem cells are cells that have not developed into special purpose cells. We have skin cells, blood cells, nerve cells, for example, and these are special cells which has their own functionality.

You can think of stem cells as "general cells" that can be programmed or engineered to become special cells. Stem cells can be found in some part of human bodies. One of them is from the umbilical cords. There might also be stem cells from the brain, I'm not very sure. These stem cells from human bodies, can be engineered and transplanted, but I heard is somewhat limited.

But the most omnipotent stem cells are from human fetus. These stem cells from fetus can be engineered to become any kind of cells, then grown in the lab or transplanted to the person that losing the organ.

Because the stem cells sought after are from fetus thus creating controversy that to cure human you have to kill/abort another human though it is just fetus.

Hope this helps.
