What is the best way to get rid of minor scars?

I recently burned my arm while making English toffee (that stuff is lethally hot...) and now that the burn has healed, I have this scar on my arm. Any suggestions about remedies that make fresh scars go away? I looked at the kits in the band-aid aisle...do they actually work?

there are different types of topical gells that you can get from your physician. the only thing that i know is available over-the-counter is called "mederma for kids" which could be used for minor scars. ask you pharmicist for other over-the-counter ointments.

Vitamin E oil may help; this is what a lot of my surgeon pals recommend. It is usually sold in the skin cleansers, night creams etc... areas of stores. You can also simply buy Vitamin E gel caps that you swallow, cut them open and squeeze the oil out - but they tend to be somewhat smelly. The straight up oil in the bottle smells much better and isn't so dangerous to the fingers(cutting open a capsule). Works well on "fine wrinkles" and "facial lines" as a night treatment as well. FYI
