For the pain, there are special products you can purchase at a regular store that contain aloe, menthol, vitamin E and other soothing agents (usually the word "ice" is in the name). To lessen the redness and ease it quickly into a tan, my grandparents taught me to dab vinegar on the affected areas with a cotton ball. This works well on minor sunburns, but may sting a little on more serious ones.

sometimes tea can help. I know it helps regular burns. The tannins are soothing or medicinal for pulling the "burn" out, and if the tea is iced that is soothing too (duh).
When I used to work in a bakery, I burnt my hand on a hot tray and so I poured a small bucket up with brewed ice tea and let my hand rest inside it for hours while I kept working.
Maybe if you steeped some tea bags, & then chilled them in the fridge, then laid them on the bad parts of your skin would help.
There is also a product for treating rosacea (reddening of skin) by Eucerin. They have mositurizers w/ a green tinge, the green subdues the redness. If you're worried about your face, that might be worth a try. You can get it at any drugstore near the facial moisturizer/skin lotion/acne etc section.
