Why is health care very expensive in this country as compared to others ? Europe for eg.?
Question:
Answers:
Health care is expensive in America because aged middle class people get health care free, and those oldesters are lonely and want attention for their hypochondria.
Lawyers also drive up the lab tests and lab protocols for both serious illnesses and imaginary pains.
Other Answers:
Health care workers are overpaid, and most of all,
because of lawyers, doctors, hospitals, have to buy malpractice insurance which costs a lot of money.
Because super rich people and huge companies feel that they need to further the gap between middle class/poor and rich.
While other countries such as Europe and Canada provide free health care to all of their citizens, it doesn't come with out a price. The government has to collect funds in some way in order to provide the health care benefits. They do this by charging extremely high taxes. Sometimes up to 50% sales tax on items! That's why on some of the products you buy, on the bar code, you see the price for US and for Canada, and the Canadian price is so much higher.
Health is mostly a for profit industry in this country. Insurance companies have to make a profit to and stay in business and keep people investing. Developing technologies and new medications involves investment as well and investors want a return for the money they put into development. In other countries, these things are handled by tax payers. There is not profit motive. Canada and England are two examples of countries where health care is a public service, managed by the government and everyone has access to care. I do not agree that health care workers are overpaid. In their work, there is no margin for error. Additionally they have to invest much time and money to stay current in their professions and maintain their credentials. Many pay tremendous overhead to stay in practice and often have to pay back student loans for several years.
Which country is "this country"?
Maybe health care in some European countries is cheaper because their taxes are higher, and people tend not to sue as much.
Sweden for instance has a great health care system, but their taxes are astronomically high, this is because they are a socialist country (nothing wrong with that).
I think it's because of all the middle men.I'm older, and when I first started working,my old family doc charged 10 bucks for an office visit. His office was in the basement of his house,he had two exam rooms,a small waiting room(1 sofa)and one receptionist(his wife). He had one nurse. The wife doubled as book-keeper.If you called in the symptoms,on a recurring problem,he'd phone in a prescription,no visit required. This was no small town country doc,I grew up in a small city,pop.250,000 at the time.
when you go in now,it's like visiting a small hospital. There is a lot of people making their living on that office visit.
Suppose your country is the u.s.a.? Ever gave it a thought how much money your government is spending on military - (335.7 billion dollars 2003-2004). What a shame. We also pay a lot for health care (i am Belgian), but at least we got something in return. Still I think we pay to much for military expenses. Think about it when you go voting next time. Good luck!

Health care workers are overpaid? Are you nuts!!
There are a lot of reasons, duplicated services, we have 3 hospitals that do Cardiac surgery in a 10 mile Radius.
The biggest problem I think are HMO's! The head of Anthem makes over 2 million a year and a 12 Million dollar bonus. There are at least 3 others that make over a million a year in the company. They are for profit and they have to return a dividend to shareholders. The way most do this is by increasing fees for those who have the HMO, in a lot of cases government workers, and denying benefits.
Now multiply that 1 HMO to almost 500 in New Jersey. A lot of health care money is going into someone else's pocket.
We don't treat those who have no health insurance, until they become so bad it takes a lot of money to address al their issues, which could have been solved much earlier.
Of course you are going to hear that the ER is used by the poor as primary care physicians. That may be partly true, but Md's also use the hospital ER at night and on weekends to send patients that don't necessarily belong there.
Very few in the medical field are over paid, except maybe some physicians, but those on the outside, who also have your life in their hands, make a hell of a lot more! Their educational requirements are high, there mandatory ongoing education is not always paid for, and they have to be Licensed!! No one at Anthem is licensed, unless it is their MD who is denying benifits or treatments! And none of the people who are stockholders who take your healthcare dollars and put's them in their pocket's without doing any work for them at all. Then they complain about taxes!!
Because of all the sue-crazy people in the US.
