What is a Knee Meniscus Tear?

Question:

Answers:
An injury to the lateral meniscus or the medial meniscus of the knee. The menisci provide support to stabilize and strengthen the knee joint. See the reference below for more information.

Other Answers:
It is in the cartlidge. A MRI of the Knee would be able to tell you if you have this.
In between your upper Femur and your lower two leg bones (can't remember their names) you have a cushiony material called meniscus that keeps the bones from rubbing the heck out of each other each time you bend your knee. In the front you have a cap called your Patella. If you have ripped your Meniscus, it is a tear in that cushion. I suggest you visit WebMD to see what is the best thing to do in this case.

it's a disk of cartilage found in some joints,it adapts the articularsurfaces to each other. So ,a tear in a knee would be a tore cartilage..They can be removed and they do grow back after it's remove..Just like a shoulder, they have cartilage too.

The meniscus is the disc-like cartilage that sits in the knee joint, between the femur and tibia. There are actually 2 menisci-- one on the inside (medial) and one on the outside (lateral) of the knee. They are like "shock-absorbers" in the knee, providing a "cushion" between the 2 weight-bearing bones.

A tear can result from several different things-- a chronic tear over time, or an acute tear due to an injury. Dependent on the location and extent of the tear, these often require surgical repair because the menisci do not have a good blood supply and typically do not heal on their own. Xrays don't show the menisci, so the best is eval. by an orthopedic MD or an MRI, which shows the soft tissue in the joint.
