gross question, but please help if you can...?
Question:
They ruled out hemorrhoids as well. Has anyone ever had this happen and if so, what was the diagnosis. The doc said if she is still doing this in a week to call her back.
Answers:
Hemorrhoids is only one thing constipation can cause that creates rectal bleeding. She may have a hemorrhoid deep inside her rectum beyond where the doctor can see. These internal hemorrhoids can cause significant bleeding.
Fissures (tears or cracks) in your rectum can also cause bleeding. If the constipation is significant, it can cause tearing of the lining of your rectum. If the bleeding persists, she will need a full rectal exam and probably an exam called a sigmoidoscopy where they insert a small, flexible scope to look at the inside of the rectum.
But, she does need a THOROUGH evaluation. The worst thing it could be is cancer, even at her age (although it isn't likely)...but she still needs to have a doctor look INSIDE her rectum to see where the bleeding is coming from.
Other Answers:
Hemorroids or Pyles can be on the inside of your rectum also.
Change doctors or have her ask for a referral to a specialist. I had two friends that developed this and they both had cancer. She needs to do something now just to check it out. Each day will make a difference. I hope she will be OK.
If hemorrhoids were rule out, then explore for polyps or cancer. For her age, can is unlikely so she needs a coloscopy to see what causes the bleeding. Tell her to see a specialist or an internist for a second opinion.

That's not a 'gross' question...I bet it's pretty scary for her (and you as her friend!)!
What color is the blood? Big difference if it is brown/black or bright red. How often does it happen? It could be one of a gazillion things!
Is she having any other symptoms? Like, dizziness, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, weight gain or swelling in her feet/hands?
Any recent change in diet, or tolerance for certain foods? And (NO NEED to answer this, just something to think about!!!!) has she recently had anal sex?
I'm an RN in a cardiac ICU, & deal w/ GI bleeds alot.
I hope if the bleeding is severe, or if it's on-going, you won't wait a week to get it checked out!
And P.S.---please also take into account everything rhubarb said!!! I bow to her experience. :-)
