Question:
Answers:
your best bet is to talk to the doctor who will be doing this explain your fears he/she will be used to patients being afraid
i am sure they will answer any questions you may have
you shouldnt be sick i believe they will give you something to prevent this and possibly a sedative
though a sedative wont put you to sleep it should make you unaware of what is happening
it did with me on the two occassions i was given a sedative
good luck hope the results are good
Other Answers:
Ask the doctor to put you to sleep.
no you won't be sick, they just put it in there, and remove it as soon after. i don't hink you will be asleep, there is no need don't be scared. if it's done on you, it's probably done on other people before and i'm sure they've all turned out fine =] the doctor will probably know what he's doing anyway
do not be scared, i have had it done, i did not get put to sleep because i did not want to, no you will not be sick you barely even know the camera is there. the more you worry the harder and worse it will seem.
Don't be scared, it is just to see if something is there. If it were obvious, they wouldn't need a camera, so what ever they are looking probably isn't ther, just go to sleep, and let them look. Ron
Well, When I was nursing I observed one of these, it didnt seem to bad, The guy on the bed was unconcious (asleep) and he did not gag or retch or anything. This was some time ago and its probably even better now. Please dont worry I am sur ethey will take good care of you. If it's like the stomach camera, they will spray-freeze your throat, that just feels like a spray, kind of cool, then they will insert the camera and you won't sense a thing. Usually before any kind of invasion treatment, the doctor will take a couple of minutes before she/he starts to explain the procedure.
Please do not worry, you are in good hands.
All the best.
I had a close friend who had this recently.
Of course it is not pleasant, since the camera has to go down to your throat.
But there is no reason to be scared.
You will not be asleep. The doctor will just give you something to drink that will function as a local sedative so you will feel less in your throat for the short time that the examination will last.
The best thing is to stay very calm and not be afraid. If you are very tensed, you might start choking and although this is a perfectly normal reaction and not dangerous, it will actually only make the experience worse.
Lastly, remember that it will be over very soon (not more than a minute normally) and that it will be over even sooner if you stay calm and relaxed.
ps- the medical term for this is endoscopy
Have had this procedure several times and was under local or full anesthetic. Really is not too bad at all. I have acid reflux and occasionally have to go in and have my esophogus stretched out which involves going into my throat with a camera.I have had this done 4 times over the past 3 years. All four times,I was put to sleep and did not even know anything was ever done when I recovered from the anesthesia. If this is the same procedure or anything like it,there is not a single thing to be worried about. The hospital that I use which is in a very small town does over 125 procedures like this every month and has never had any problems according to my doctor.
Good luck and I will pray for you
It really depends on what area of your body they want to look at,if it is your throat specifically there are two options the first is a visual look with local anesthesia spray this can be done using either the nose or mouth as portal of entry. however if the Dr. is concerned with gagging and the ability to see adequately then he will use a dream like state. induced by an injection. Most people who have had the latter report the procedure as a minor incident.
most people do not get sick with these procedures. when my boy was a yr.old he had it done i think it scared me more than him.
