what are the symptoms of a blown ear drum?
Question:
Answers:
With a tympanic perforation, you may or may not experience pain. It's usually painless. Most heal spontaneously. The scar tissue someone brought up can happen with repeated perfs usually from repeated infections. The symptom is hearing loss.
Blow your nose. If you hear air coming out your ear, then your TM is perf'd. Someone next to you may hear it, too.
It's important for you to be examined by an Otolaryngologist so that the type of perf can be identified. Central perfs (no involvement of the edge of the eardrum) heal better than marginal perfs (these do involve the edge of the eardrum). The "Oto" may want you to have audiology (hearing test) as well.
As I mentioned, most perfs heal spontaneously but if your should not you can have myringoplasty, which is a paper patch placed over the hole right there in the "Oto's" office or tympanoplasty, which a surgical repair. But I advise you to be seen soon before infection develops.
You should see a doctor
