Question:
Answers:
Look at it this way, your body need to be empty, you can't use the bathroom or do much doing or after surgery. Common sense don't eat or drink anything.
Other Answers:
so you don't drown in your own vomit and die. the anesthia could cause you to throw up.
Keeps your body from vomiting during surgery.. So you don't vomit.
So you don't throw up.anesthesia can cause nausea
because when they give you a sediative they are afraid you might get choked on your own food or water ..if you have a empty stomach there is nothing to choke on
Because a common reaction to anesthesia is vomiting and they don't want you to choke on it and die. So you don't throw up and get your self killed while you are unconscious on the table.
Because the medications they give during surgery will make you sick to your stomach and you will vomit!
They do not want anything in your stomach in case you vomit while under anesthesia. This can be very nasty and can lead to pneumonia if you end up breathing the vomit in. It's also no fun for the surgical team.
painless is ever so right i know this because i work in the or ( painless is the first to answer you question) I am not sure maybe so they do not have to see the food or stop the digestive process.
they dont want you to throw up when they put you to sleep for surgery. they say 24 hours to give your body time to digest food to a point that it shoulndt be easily brought up again.
in the past it was that way, but in England the anesthetists have stated that you can drink clear fluids up until 2 hours before surgery(no milk products) and food 6 hours before, this is now protocol in the hospital where i work, but when people come in from home they tend to not eat anything since the night before because of sleeping.
Because the anesthesia may make you throw up if you've eaten prior to surgery. Although I've never heard 24 hours. The couple times I've had it or someone I know did, the doctor always said they couldn't eat after a certain time the day before. anethesia causes severe nausea and vomiting in some patients.
when you are in the recovery room after surgery, you will be watched for about an hour as the medication wears off-as it does this, the nausea usually kicks in and if you have food or drink in your stomach-you could vomit and aspirate (breath in the vomit-causing it to go down your windpipe and into your lungs). not only will it cause you to choke but you could develop infection such as aspiration pneumonia-an infection caused in the lungs due to breathing in bacteria from the vomit.
