exactly are the health risks of drinking alcohol daily, as well as smoking cigarettes, and weed. if a person does this what are all the health risks he or she is looking at and what symptoms should they look for? telling him the dangers doesnt seem to help he wont quit, so what do i say are the dangers besides prison, been there done that. he doesnt know the seriousness of this and says i am in denial. but he does have a nasty cough i am sure from asthma or copd. and if that how will he know its copd and not asthma cause dont you use the same inhalers for both?

Drinking alcohol, directly affects your kidnies. My god father had died from Alcoholism, from kidney failure. An alcoholic drinking bear daily compared to another one drinking the hard stuff (whiskey, vodka, cognac....etc), the one drinking the hard stuff might be affected a lot sooner as the alcohol content is a lot higher, but a lot if it also depends on a person and their health.

From what you are describing, this person is not vey healthy If he has been drinking and smoking all kinds of sh!t daily. The tar content in one joint of weed is equal to 10 cigaretts. Now, if he is also smoking cigarettes, drinking daily, he is slowly comitting suicide. You are not in denial, he is.

You need to understand, that after 20 years, you don't just quit. This person is an addict and needs help and treatment. I know what is it, my uncle i going through the same thing (minus the weed) and refuses to aknowledge that he needs help.Just by looking at him it is quite obvious that something is wrong.

No matter what you will tell him, he will continue to do what he does, and the more you tell him, the more he will do it.

The nasty cough might or might not be from asthma. Lung cancer is just around the corner. Aside from kidney failure from alcohol, he can get stomach ulcers, might not be able to digest all foods, might have diarhea often and when sober, be in a very bad mod and have the shakes. These are all serious signes that something is wrong and that when he finally wakes up, it might be too late.

His issues seam to be a lot deeper then his drug abuse and he is hiding behind all of this. Some people are not strong enough to face who they are or what they have gone through.

I don't know what else to tell you except best of luck and I really hope he gets help.
