Achilles tendon?

Question:
I ran 7 miles yesterday, and as I was just about in my driveway, my achilles tendon started smarting like mad. It's not as painful as it was yesterday, but is there anything I can do (besides ice, pain relievers, and levitation) to help it heal as quickly as possible? I can't stand not being able to run!!

Answers:
I have torn both achilles before.

get a foam roller from a physical therapist and roll your calf, IT band, and quads EVERY morning for like 30 seconds each and EVERY night. All are connected, ALL need to be loose.

Next, go to a hospital supply store and buy a "boot" for your foot. You wear it at night, it keeps your foot at a 45 degree angle from your leg, and it prevents the achilles from "shortening" up at night while you are sleeping.

I do both.I run 20-30 a week, I run sub 40 10ks, and that is AFTER biking a 1 hour portion of a triathlon. I can do mile repeats at a 5.15 pace.and remember.I have torn BOTH achilles. They are now stronger and more flexible than ever. It is not something to screw around with though..don't let it get so bad that it ends up rupturing or you'll be on the elliptical or in the pool instead of running. And..pool running SUCKS!!

Pull the arrow out. LOL

That happened to me yesterday, I used one of those vibrating massagers the kind they sell for your back and massaged the area for about 5 minutes, it helped a lot.
