I have a sole kidney, and my doctor told me its not functioning well. So my createnine value is 6.?
Question:
Answers:
Wow, sorry to hear that. I should tell you that a high Creatinine value is not always indicative of renal failure. It could be several things;
Acute tubular necrosis
Dehydration
Diabetic nephropathy
Eclampsia (a condition of pregnancy that includes seizures)
Glomerulonephritis
Muscular dystrophy
Pre-eclampsia (pregnancy-induced hypertension)
Pyelonephritis
Reduced renal blood flow (shock, congestive heart failure)
Rhabdomyolysis
Urinary tract obstruction
Unless the cause is reversable there isn't much you really can do to make it go down, you just have to change the way you eat and drink so you don't suffer from further complications. Was the 6 a 24 hour creatinine clearance test? Do you know what your BUN is? You need to see a nephrologist to do a few more tests and unfortunately you may need dialysis. For now, avoid sodium like the plague. Don't consume foods with potassium or phosphorus. You may end up on a few meds; calcium supplements, vitamins and a phosphorus binder like Renagel. Just know that sometimes good things happen. As someone that was given virtually no chance of survival when both my kidneys shut down and my liver was in failure, I can tell you that you never say never. If you want to speak more about it you can IM me. I've walked the dialysis walk and I'd be happy to share some insight with you.

HEllo Kayu, Sorry to know about your problem. there are chances that you can post pon your dialysis and transplant of kidney. Try Homoeopathic treatment so that you can go long way. try to get the treatment fast. because in higher pathology homoeopathy wont help.
Financial reasons be damned this is your life your talking about!
I went from a very good paying job that I loved, down to dialysis. Now dialysis is MY job. I am blind so I have to find a ride or call dial-a-ride and ride a bus for 3 hours each way. plus the 4 hours I'm there 3 times a week. I'm not complaining this is just the way it is, yes your life will change but you will have a life and really that's what it all comes down too anyway.
I tried the cranberry's and there is a way to clean out the toxins by drinking a tablespoon of olive oil with fresh grapefruit juice. But if your kidney is that bad it might not be wise to do any more damage to it or to shock it to much, Look into a renal diet to ease the stress of the kidney you have. Stay away from all soda's, sport drinks and alcohol & saltly foods.
A very good source of information is Davita.com don't let the dialysis part of the website scare you, just know what will be, WILL be and you can deal with it as it comes, one day sometimes, one hour at a time.
Good luck to you.
Six is high, but there are many factors that the doctor should be looking at. Have you visited a nephrologist or a GP? Someone who specializes in kidneys will be able to truly help you. It's important to remember that one number won't apply to everyone. I am at 113lb female, I won't have the same muscle mass as a 180 lb guy, therefore I won't have the same creatinine level.
Ask for a Creatinine Clearance test (24 hr. collection) in order to get an idea of what is really going on with your kidney.
Remember, so one ever died from a high creatinine level...how are your Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN), Sodium, and Potassium levels (the last two are the ones that could truly hurt you :( ? Are you seeing elevated numbers across the board?
Good luck!
