Peeling fingertips??

Question:
Hi! Question.I have fingertips that everynow and then start to peel. I put lotion on my hands at least once a day to try and prevent it, but it is still happening. I'm becoming kind of worried. I decided to up my iron intake yesterday, thinking that might help. Any idea what may be causing this? Thanks ahead of time!

Answers:
Drink more water for a start. It's normal for your fingers, hands and feet to peel every few months, but this sounds like a hydration issue. Try using a vitamin E lotion on the tips of your fingers. Do you work with paper all day? Paper dries your finger tips out, I work for a structural engineering firm and touch paper all day and get hang nails alot because of it. Examine your environment on what's robbing your fingertips of the oils and required hydration.

You probably just have dry skin. At night, try putting lots and lots of lotion and sleep with a glove. I know it sounds funny, but it helps keep moisture in your skin. Bath and Body Works has some hand treatments and gloves you can purchase.

eat lots of fresh vegtables!! also, you could try a moisturizing lotion, often. Most likely, calouses are building up on your fingertips from some activity you do on a daily basis. I'm a musician and it happens to me all the time becuase of the use of the finger tips while depressing the strings on the instruments. I suppose it could be attributalbe to excesive typing as well. I notice mine peel more when I take a break from the activity for a period of time. This may have nothing to do with your problems, but it explains mine and might help you with yours. Good luck.
