I cleanly broke the radial bone in my forearm 2 inches from the distal end - how soon can I do pushups?

Question:
I am about to get the cast off after wearing it for 6 weeks and would like to resume normal activity and competitive sports as quickly as possible.

Answers:
Depends on how the fracture has healed - only an x-ray would determine that. It also depends upon your age, other medical factors, etc. but as a general ballpark figure I would say another 2-3 months. Don't forget you are putting a lot of your body weight through the area so it is easy to reinjure if you try pushups too soon.

Good luck!

Ask your orthopaedic surgeon or physician. It depends on how your bone has healed on a check- x-ray.
The reson a cast is put on is to a) keep the bone stable
and b) to assist in the reattatchment of muscle and ligaments to the healing bome again. It takes extra time on top of this for the ligaments to attatch further and to bulk up again. During 6 weeks of no use, the muscles tend to waste away a little. Luckily, muscle cells have memory in them and can be retrained.
Go easy and things will get back to normal. Go hard and you will be back in plaster again and take longer to get where you want to be.
