Why is it that before a surgery, they ask you not to eat or drink anything for 8 hours?

well for one thing they don't want you to vomit anything up and aspirate it back into your lungs...they also don't want your bladder full or I'm sure a myriad of other reasons.

Because you're going to be put under anesthesia........it is better to have an empty stomach so you don't vomit during the surgery and after. I ALWAYS get sick after Im put under. You can get away with water or some lemon drops..........but don't eat!
