Severe back and leg pain?

Question:
Ok here's the situation.. I've been having this pain in my back.. it comes and goes.. like 2-3 times a month.. I always felt this little pop in my back and then my back would hurt for days.. My doctor said that my right hip is moving out of place and it takes a few days for it to adjust back to where it is comfortable.. but it takes days and it hurts.. really really bad.. and I keep getting little shots of pain down the outer side of my right leg.. I can barely walk.. when I do walk I have to stand hunched over bc it hurts even worse to stand up straight..

I was wondering if there was any way possible to fix this hip problem permanently? Surgery, therapy, etc... I'm open to any suggestions to make this go away. Someone suggested seeing a pain specialist but all he'll do is load me up on pain killers and I dont want to be drugged up all the time..

What can I do?

Answers:
Sounds like classic Sciatic Nerve damage to me. The reason that you feel your back pop is that you probably have a herniated or buldging disc in your lower back. When it "acts up" it is hitting your sciatic nerve, which makes your back and hip hurt. The nerve runs from the middle of your lower back over to your hip, down your leg past your knee around your shin to your foot and big toe. I thought that I had hip trouble for a long time, until my sciatic nerve got bad enough that it passed the hip. What you described sounds exactly like what I had a few years ago when my problem first started.
Alternate ice and heat on your lower back between your spine and your hip, leave them on for 15min. each. Every couple of hours, sleep on your back with your knees bent,(I use pillows under them)
I know that you may doubt me because you hip hurts so bad, but I promise you that its the nerve. If you can, you can see a Nuerologist to help. You may need a referal from another doctor first though.
Good Luck, I hope you get the relief that you need.
This problem rarely heals itself. :=(
The problem doesn;t seem to be coming from ur hip. the main problem is your back. u are most likely having a slipped disc. u need to go and see a physio. depeding on the severity of the slipped disc ur treatment will be planned. U may need strict bed rest.
Well finding the cause of your pain (with an MRI or x-rays or some other diagnostic test) is probably your first thing that you need to take care of that way you know what to do to treat the pain. A pain management doctor can do many other things besides just give your pain killers, they know many of the treatments and things you can do to help with the pain. Good luck!
